Of the Essence
We humbly profess that this necklace is a serious piece of translation magic! (Ok, maybe not so humbly). There is nothing that gives us butterflies more than being able to connect two pieces across time and space in a way that enhances the beauty and function of both of them, and we are thrilled with the way this special piece came together.
A beautiful 12k Edwardian open link gold chain has been combined with a Victorian late 19th century bloomed-gold 14k bar brooch to create your favorite new layering piece. We can feel the art historical resonance across the two gold pieces as they now get to live and age together adorning their next lucky caretaker; the links in the chain echo the decorative loops that frame the pendant, and the beautiful patina of the chain offers a delicious contrast with the bloomed gold centerpiece. We imagine that before the 14k was dipped in acid in order to leave a thin layer of high-carat gold on the surface, it had a very similar tone to the chain links. And in fact, on the reverse of the pendant, we can see from where the brooch fastenings were removed, that the remaining color is very much like that of the chain.
The open links of the chain allow you to clasp this beauty anywhere from a maximum of 21 inches all the way down to whatever is most comfortable at the base of her neck. We love the idea that she will get to be the perfect length you might be missing from your neck stack on any given day, offering a distinct and lovely combination of textures we haven't quite seen before. We can't wait for you to try her on.
