This Victorian silver locket with gorgeous antique patina and repoussé relief carving of a cornucopia is the perfect size and weight for those of us who love the empowerment of chunky pieces but don't love the feeling of being overly weighed down on our neck and shoulders. Great worn on a short chain but sturdy enough to be worn long, and sexy as hell either way.

Both the concept and visual theme of a cornucopia was a popular one in the Victorian era, and particularly lent itself to the style of silver jewelry of the time. Because silver could retain a great deal of detailed metal work without it becoming overly fragile (as gold might), the silver of the era gifts us some of the most elaborate and ambitious relief ornamentation.

We love that mythologically, cornucopia (often referred to as the 'horn of plenty') symbolizes both abundance *and* gratitude, and in Greek and Roman legend was also often used to symbolize spiritual abundance as well as nourishment for the body.

This piece is in fantastic antique condition, and while the interior does not have any glass, the closure is secure enough (still has that always beloved click!) for it to hold special small items or photographs. The initials on the back are "RKH", and you can choose to leave them as part of the story of the piece, or have them smoothed out and engraved with your own if you so choose.
